This is a brand new Chess set with with a foldable passbook size chessboard in fine plastic and metal material. The chessboard measures 8" in length, 7" in width, and 3/16" in thickness when unfolded. This is the most common size of mini chessboard, making it possible to be set up on a coffee table, resting on your palm, as well as giving you the convenience of putting into your pocket. The chessboard is foldable, with a nicely designed storage compartment for storing the chess pieces. When folded, the chessboard gives adequate mechanical strength to withstand general impact.
The playing pieces are made of two types of material: the hard plastic shapes the chess pieces, while a small magnet is embedded in each chessman to give the magnetic effect. The "King" is about 1 and 1/4 inch (1.25") tall, and the "Pawn" is about 5/8 inch (0.63") in height.

INTERESTING FACTS OF CHESS
The roots of Western Chess dated back to more than 1,500 years ago. One common belief is that the game originated in India in the 6th century AD. At the time the game beared the name of "Chaturanga". In the years that followed "Chaturanga" was spread westward into Persia, and then to southern Europe. Interestingly, the word "Checkmate" is believed to be an English interpretation of "Shah mat", which is Persian for "the King is finished". Some oldest known chess pieces have been found in ancient Persian territories.
After centuries of evolution, the ancient game developed into its present form in the 15th century. By the second half of the 19th century, modern tournament play began. The first world championship was held in 1886. Perhaps one of the most memorable year in the history of chess is 1997, when computer "Deep Blue" defeated the then reigning world champion Garry Kasparov in a match of great public attention.
The ancient game "Chaturanga" was likely to have spread eastward to Asia in a different path of evolution, leading to the formation of major chess variants such as Xiangqi (Chinese chess) and Shogi (Japanese chess). Though conclusive evidence is still required to make a strong argument, it is probable that the western chess and its eastern variants shared the same origin.
IMPORTANT information : As each chessman is made of hard plastic with an embedded magnet, there is a posssibility that the magnet might come off after some time. Please use any general instant glue to fix this little problem.
